Neolithic Age School Project #crafts #diyprojects #homerenovacion #remodeling #homeimprovement #renovation #diy @verefazer

Neolithic Age Diorama
Dear friends , this school year my daughter has to learn about the Stone age with all its subdivisions - the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic Ages! It can get pretty confusing trying to remember what happened during each age!! But kudos to the clever History teacher who asked the children to make a chart, a powerpoint presentation or a model on an assigned age!
My daughter got Neolithic Age, and of course, if you have been following my blog for sometime you will guess correctly that she opted to make a 3 D model rather than an easier chart or powerpoint presentation!!Haha!!
Neolithic Age Diorama
We planned out the elements in our Diorama such that each unique and important aspect of the Neolithic Period was highlighted.
The main reason I am sharing this project in so much detail is that it may benefit someone in future...When I googled about this period I found there was hardly any school project type material online!!
And for my crafty friends....well do sit back and be transported back into Neolithic Age!!
Neolithic Age Diorama
During  the Paleolithic Age which preceded the Neolithic Age ,  men were predominantly nomads hunting for food and living in caves. During the Neolithic Period they started farming and settled down in small fenced villages and built homes with thatched roofs.
Neolithic Age Diorama
The type of tools used is distinctive in each age . During the Neolithic Period , sophisticated stone tools evolved. My daughter made all the tiny tools referring to pictures of Neolithic tools in her textbook and online. She molded the tools using air drying clay and added "toothpick" handles to some of the tools as "handles" were a hallmark of Neolithic Period stone tools!
Stone Tools
Neolithic man could make more polished tools compared to his predecessors as he made use of the "grindstone" to smoothen and shape his stone tools! My daughter's grindstone was fashioned with clay which she painted with acrylic paint to give the "stone look"!
Stone Tool Making- Neolithic Age
Neolithic man also used "basalt" ...a type of stone which did not chip easily and hence could be shaped into finer stone tools. And in the picture below you can see the "bone" tools my daughter fashioned by cutting clay which had dried up!
Neolithic Age Tools
During this period man discovered fire and pottery! And my kiddo was sooo proud of all her little pots and vessels she made painstakingly! She added all kinds of little details like the "mound of clay" on the side besides the pots from which the pots were made!
Neolithic Age
And can you see the food she added to one of the plates![Its craft foam putty!]
Neolithic Age Diorama
And we added a toy basket as Neolithic man were expert at basket making!!
Woven Basket in Neolithic Age
The invention of the wheel happened in the Neolithic Period ...and they made the wheels by carving stone!! Just imagine!
Stone Wheel in Neolithic Age
And the major points differentiating the Neolithic Period from the Paleolithic Period....cultivation and domestication of animals!
Neolithic Age Diorama
It is times like these where I am soo glad I have a nice stash of craft supplies I can fall back on to make a project quicker and easier! We could use dies to quickly and easily add a lot of plants to our diorama!
Neolithic Period man cultivated rice, wheat and barley. Our diorama has maize plants but then I guess that's okay!!Hehe!
Neolithic Age Diorama - Cultivation
Neolithic man settled down near rivers and streams and our deep blue stream is bordered by glittery reeds and vines! Th muddy mound you see near the flower is a lump of clay!! Turned out sooo realistic !
Neolithic Age - riverside settlement
Most of the objects in the diorama were created by my daughter with help from me for the hot gluing aspect but I couldn't resist contributing bits here and there and one of them is the  lotus! [here is the tutorial : Easy Flower Tutorial ] !
Neolithic Age Diorama
My kiddo painted the muddy patches and grassy terrain for her animals. And boy was this an educational as well as a fun project!
And can you spot the "socks" on one of the cows...well that poor chap had his legs eaten off by my dog when he was a puppy ...but the good news is he can now happily stand on prosthetic clay feet [created by my daughter] !
Neolithic Age - Domestication of Animals
We had signs put up to highlight each important aspect of Neolithic  life and my daughter used glitter foam  to depict fire! The little rocks you can spy right at the back behind the sign was the carton packaging of eggs!!Hehe yeah we used a lot of recycled objects in this project!
Neolithic Age - Religious Practices
It is always fascinating to read about religious practises and I was so surprised to read that Megaliths [which are huge stone boulders used to mark burial sites] can still  be seen in my home renovation state of Kerala , near the popular tourist town of Munnar!
Neolithic Age - Religious Practices
Our project took a good many hours to complete but boy my daughter was sooo proud of it ! And the best thing is that I think she will remember all the important facts of the Neolithic Period for a good many years!!

Clay Ocean Diorama #crafts #diyprojects #homerenovacion #remodeling #homeimprovement #renovation #diy @verefazer

Ocean Diorama 2
Clay ocean diorama
This ocean diorama with a clay mermaid accompanied by a cute clay pet whale , clay crab and numerous clay sea weeds is my little girl's creation.

Clay Crafts
I was in fact somewhat amused when I got an email from Kores Kool Clay asking if my kiddo would be interested in working with Kores clay!! And here I thought people came to the blog to see my work !!
I accepted the offer on behalf of my daughter as we had already worked with Kores clay before and I knew she could easily work with it unlike some super sticky brands of clay which she disliked!
Well little crafter took her designer job very very seriously and even made me take a video of her making the clay mermaid [but somehow me not too comfy about putting her on you tube...what say friends?]!
Ocean Diorama 13
Clay Mermaid
Well here is her mini tutorial in her own words:
1. Make a ball with white clay for the face
2. To make hair-flatten red clay ball with a vessel - quicker than rolling it out as per the expert! Cut it into strip and stick on head
Ocean Diorama 3
Clay mermaid
3.Make eyes with bits of white, green and black bits of clay
Ocean Diorama 4
Clay Mermaid
Steps 4, 5, 6 are missing as I got a patient's call and by the time I got back the little crafter had already made the mermaid's body !For some reason the mermaid's head disliked the body and resisted pushing, squashing, scolding and even the ultimate crafters' fail-safe of gluing so we decided to skewer her together with a broomstick !! [yeah we crafters have to be a bit brutal at times ,don't we?!]
Ocean Diorama 5
Clay Mermaid
As a final touch mermaid got a sequin flower and can you see the tiny "umbilicus" on the cutie tummy ?!
Clay crafts
My little girl recycled an old cardboard box lid  [by painting it blue] to create a setting for her ocean diorama.
Ocean Diorama 6
Clay Mermaid
We placed little mermaid on a real sea shell sofa and according to my daughter little mermaid had just got back from collecting pearls [you can spy the treasure in her  pink clay basket!].
Ocean Diorama 7
Clay flower
My daughter's big red clay flower perhaps bears no resemblance to any aquatic botanical species ...but then we do have artistic license!! We made the seaweeds from green clay and stuck them atop real sea shells.
Ocean Diorama 9
Clay roses
Most clay brands we get here in India dont have the color pink [ a bit weird!] but Kores clay does have unusual popular colors such as black and pink and I couldn't resist contributing the little pink clay rose buds to the diorama. These easy to make clay roses are just rolled up clay strips. Here is a link to a proper Clay rose tutorial
Ocean Diorama 10
Clay roses
How do you like my daughter's smiley crab and standing seaweed ? She was so pleased she could make the seaweed stand by curving its shape...ha ha imbibed physics lesson ! The corals in the diorama are treasures we  brought  back from a Malaysian holiday[ Oh I do love that country--- its a holiday haven for nature lovers!]
Ocean Diorama 11
Clay crab
We duplicated the orange and velvet sea sponges from the graphics behind the crab into matching clay sea sponges !
Ocean Diorama 8
Clay crafts
Since I have a crafty little girl I  buy a lot of clay and have tried many different clay brands. What we especially liked about the Kores Kool clay is its not sticky , its easy to mould and shape and wont stick to moulds or cutters. And true to their claim of "never drying"...the clay figures remained the same even after a week in our humid hot Indian climate!

I hope you enjoyed seeing my daughter's ocean diorama ...do spare a moment to comment [ She does read the comments and smile from ear to ear when you praise her !!]

Beaded ChristmasTrees Diorama

Christmas diorama
Christmas Trees Diorama
Dear friends Thank you so much for the wonderfully uplifting comments on my Beaded tree tutorial.I used the beaded trees to make a  Christmas diorama by recycling an old cardboard box.Wrapped the box in festive papers and added  a glittery Santa in a sleigh pulled by reindeer ploughing through snow!

The red berries on the holly leaves strewn all over my Christmas diorama are called “manjadi kuru” in my native malayalam language.A little bit of snow really jazzed up this old Christmas bell ornament I had.

Many friends commented in my earlier post that the beaded trees must have taken time to make ..actually I was surprised that they took much less time than some cards!!

Ocean themed recycling Crafts with the Big Shot

Ocean themed craft
Dear friends I love to hoard cardboard boxes and tins and whenever we get time my kiddo and I spruce them up a bit and use them to store all our nick knacks!
These are the box and tin can we used in our recycling craft
Recycling Craft
2 weeks back after months of dilly dallying I finally took the plunge and bought a Big shot machine. For 1 week I treated it like a breakable crystal and allowed my daughter to only watch when I used it! In our house so far I have let my kiddo use all my crafting stuff except the craft knife and the glue gun ! So I felt like the big bad mean witch who wouldn't share !! and besides it was no fun crafting alone! So this weekend I let her use "my toy" and now she is a pro and can even remember the sandwich combinations !!
So here is my kiddo carefully and with wonder using the Big Shot to create her ocean themed recycling craft!
Ocean themed craft
She embossed pearlised card stock in dots and swirls pattern and carefully layered them over the box we were recycling
Ocean themed craft
Whenever I craft with my daughter I love to sit back and see how she creates! It was fun how she made the sandy beach  with a coconut tree. She embossed swirls on pearly white card for the clouds which I helped her cut out.
Ocean themed craft
My little one is a romantic and she added a boy and girl on the beach and  a pair of dolphins leaping into the sky
Ocean themed craft
This was such a fun and easy  recycling project
Ocean themed craft
We stuck thermocol balls on the tree for "coconuts" and some shell for the  ocean theme.
Ocean themed craft
We transformed the originally dull surfaced foam dolphins into glossy shiny beauties using glossy accents
Glossy Accents Magic
Wound some pom pom ribbon around the lower part of the box and also stuck embossed paper on the sides of the lid to match the design on the top.
Ocean themed craft
We recycled the tin can using the same ocean theme.
Ocean themed craft
My little one stuck googly eyes on all the sea creatures .

Ocean themed craft
We dabbed glitter at many places on our ocean scenery

Ocean themed craft
Here is our little octopus who had 8 hands[ my little one made sure of that!]
Ocean themed craft
And whats an ocean without a crab!
Ocean themed craft
I never thought having a die cutting machine would be so much fun and never imagined a 6 year old could handle it so easily!
Ocean themed craft
I hope you enjoyed this fun ocean craft. You dont need a machine to create fun stuff .....but having one is just like having a fun toy!
Supplies:Embossing folders, Big Shot- from Itsy Bitsy
